Today I didn’t go the garden until late morning with the hopes that the soil would be dry enough to work by the time I got there. For some reason, our acre at the top of the hill retained the moisture from yesterday’s rain much more than Karrie’s acre at the bottom. Hm. We transplanted some chard and brussel sprouts today, as well as direct seeded (broadcast actually) some salad mix and mesclun mix.
Tina and Julie also helped John with his first few potato rows. Karrie planted some cauliflower and broccoli seed in her acre plot, but then used the top half of a water bottle to shelter the seed and create a miniature greenhouse effect. She said she saw it used in Elliot Coleman’s book. What a cool idea! I’ll post a picture of that soon. The visual makes much more sense.
It was a beautiful day to spend most of it in the garden.
